FAQs About Mechanical Water Meter

Can I read my water meter remotely?

Yes, you can. Modern smart water meters equipped with pulse output or electronic registers send usage data via networks such as NBIoT, LoRaWAN, cellular or Wireless MBus. Utilities and customers access this data remotely—hourly or daily—for billing, usage insights, and leak detection.

Can water meters be turned off remotely?

Only valve-controlled smart meters support this. They include an internal motorized valve that utilities (or owners) can close remotely via NB-IoT or other networks—useful for non-payment, emergency shutdowns, or theft prevention. Non-valve meters can be read remotely but lack shut-off capability .
