Wired meters commonly use the M-Bus (Meter-Bus) protocol over twisted-pair cables. A master device polls slave meters over two-wire connections, which can also power the meters. It supports long-range (hundreds of meters to kilometers), two-way communication, and is standardized under EN 13757 for reliable data transfer.
Wired systems like M-Bus offer high stability and reliability, strong noise immunity, low power use, easy scalable mesh of hundreds of meters, long-distance links, and secure hashed data—all at lower operating costs than wireless.
